National Energy Day was celebrated today (26) at Vishaka Girls’ College, Bandarawela with the participation of the Energy Minister Eng. Kumara Jayakody.

This year’s National Energy Day Celebration was arranged to be held at Vishaka Girls’ College, Bandarawela, in line with Minister Kumara Jayakody’s visit to the Bandarawela area as one of the members of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on resolving long-standing issues related to the Uma Oya project, and the event was also attended by Badulla District MP Ravindra Bandara and the Chairman of Sustainable Energy Authority, Prof. Wijendra Bandara and several other participants.

It has been decided to declare June 26 of each year as “National Energy Day” in commemoration of the 26th of June 1882, the day Sri Lankans first saw the light of an electric lamp when the German ship SS Helios arrived at the Colombo Port.
