A group of top-tier Japanese investors met with the Minister today (31) at the Ministry of
Energy. During the meeting, discussions focused on the investment opportunities in the
renewable energy, particularly regarding the modernization and development of power
transmission system.
As Sri Lankans, we have a very positive view of Japan as it has been one of our long-term
allies. We especially appreciate Japan’s support in our country’s development and infrastructure
enhancement, and we highly value the offer to invest in the Sri Lanka’s power generation and
transmission sector by making use of those opportunities, the Minister stated. He further added
that the government is committed to providing the necessary facilities to those investors.
The investors informed the Minister about delays and issues related to the process of obtaining
necessary approvals from the state institutions when implementing development projects in the
country, and in response the Minister further stated that the government has identified these
issues and has taken necessary steps to redress them in the future.
During the meeting, the Japanese investors also informed the Minister of their strong
willingness to invest in the renewable energy sector, and stated that they would make
arrangements to invest in that sector in future by considering the information provided by the
Minister.
