“Our country is fortunate to be blessed with three key renewable energy sources, hydropower, solar
and wind as we work towards achieving the country’s energy goals. I would like to state that we are
committed to acting responsibly, with the corporation of all parties, both in protecting the
environment and in ensuring that everyone receives benefits, especially when undertaking
development projects such as those in renewable energy,” the Minister said this morning (16)
attending the opening ceremony of the Vidullanka PLC’s latest solar power plant in the Padukka
area.
“As a country with high population density in the world, we face challenges when implementing
development projects. In view of the environmental impact as well as people’s expectations,
demands and facilities of the country, we are committed to proceed these projects in a manner that
benefits every stakeholder. In particular, I would like to say that each unit of electricity
produced by solar energy helps protect the environment and save country’s foreign
exchange,” the Minister further stated. The Minister also expressed that many steps have been
taken to strengthen the national electricity transmission system, which will prevent power outages
and contribute to increase the share of renewable energy. He further emphasized government’s
agenda to encourage local entities to invest in the electricity sector.
