A group of top-tier Japanese investors met with the Minister today (31) at the Ministry of
\nEnergy. During the meeting, discussions focused on the investment opportunities in the
\nrenewable energy, particularly regarding the modernization and development of power
\ntransmission system.
\nAs Sri Lankans, we have a very positive view of Japan as it has been one of our long-term
\nallies. We especially appreciate Japan\u2019s support in our country\u2019s development and infrastructure
\nenhancement, and we highly value the offer to invest in the Sri Lanka\u2019s power generation and
\ntransmission sector by making use of those opportunities, the Minister stated. He further added
\nthat the government is committed to providing the necessary facilities to those investors.
\nThe investors informed the Minister about delays and issues related to the process of obtaining
\nnecessary approvals from the state institutions when implementing development projects in the
\ncountry, and in response the Minister further stated that the government has identified these
\nissues and has taken necessary steps to redress them in the future.
\nDuring the meeting, the Japanese investors also informed the Minister of their strong
\nwillingness to invest in the renewable energy sector, and stated that they would make
\narrangements to invest in that sector in future by considering the information provided by the
\nMinister.
\nSenior Additional Secretary to the President, Mr. Subhash Roshan Gamage, also graced the
