A meeting was held today (01) morning at the Ministry between the UK High Commissioner to
\nSri Lanka, Mr. Andrew Patrick, and the Minister of Energy, Eng. Kumara Jayakody.
\nAiming to enhance connections in the energy sector between the two countries, the discussion
\nfocused specifically on information, plans and future initiatives related to the country\u2019s power
\nsector. Attention was given to emerging trends in the power sector such as wind power and the
\nUK High Commissioner expressed the willingness to provide necessary assistance to the
\ncountry through international cooperation agencies as per the requirement.
\nMoreover, the discussions also focused on the hydropower system, which accounts for a
\nsignificant share of country\u2019s renewable energy generation and there the Minister gratefully
\nhighlighted that the Victoria power plant, country\u2019s largest hydropower plant, was a result of a
\ngrant from the UK. The Minister stated that further enhancing of the capacity of the Victoria
\npower plant has been given consideration in line with the original plan and that he expects the
\nsupport of the British government for this purpose.
\nThe High Commissioner expressed that he would present these matters to his government and
