Kumara Jayakody inspected the construction work of the Moragolla hydropower project, which is considered the final hydropower project to be built using water from the Mahaweli river integrating 30.2 MW to the national grid and is currently in its final stages of construction, and also the Kothmale-New Polpitiya 220kV\/132kV transmission line.<\/p>\n<p>The Moragolla project, which is designed with the purpose of maintaining stability of the electricity supply during peak hours from 7:00 p.m. \u2013 10:00 p.m. is expected to be connected to the national grid by December this year.<\/p>\n<p>A 237 meter long and 37 meter high dam is being built across the Mahaweli River to generate electricity from two 15.1 MW turbines, using water channeled through a 3 km underground tunnel, \u00a0and the electricity generated will be integrated into the national grid.<\/p>\n<p>The Kothmale- New Polpitiya 220kV\/132kV transmission line, currently under construction to connect the Mahaweli Hydropower Complex and the Laxapana Hydropower Complex, is also expected to play a significant role in maintaining the stability of the national grid. This construction project, which is jointly carried out by CEB engineers, local experts and construction companies, received special appreciation from the Minister. The Project Director of the Moragolla Hydropower Project Mr. Gemunu Ranasinghe, the Deputy General Manager of the CEB (Transmission, Construction Projects) Mr. Nishantha Garusinghe, and a group of senior officers from the CEB were present on this occasion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>esterday (13), Energy Minister Eng.
