Introduction

Renewable Hydrogen or Green Hydrogen is the form of hydrogen produced using renewable energy sources, basically through the electrolysis process. With the ample renewable energy resource available in the country, Sri Lanka can benefit through renewable hydrogen by way of using as an option for energy storage for cushioning the intermittency in integrating renewable energy based electricity to the grid, and also as a new energy career for wider applications.

In this context, Ministry of Energy and Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority have prepared the Draft National Policy on Renewable Hydrogen for Sri Lanka. Through the Renewable Hydrogen Stakeholder Consultation Workshop organized by Ministry of Energy and Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority in collaboration with the UNDP, it is aimed at creating a wide dialogue on this draft policy and obtain stakeholder inputs for the draft policy in order that it will better conceptualize the policy framework for meeting the upcoming needs in green hydrogen.
