The Energy Management Systems Forum (EnMS Forum 2025), a one-day conference on energy management methodologies aimed at increasing energy efficiency in industries, providing the capability and capacity to these industries to reduce the use of high-carbon fossil fuels, and increasing the knowledge of those involved in the field was held today (29) at Cinnamon Life in Colombo with the key participation of the Energy Minister, Eng. Kumara Jayakody.

The Minister of Energy, while addressing the conference organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and hosted by the Accelerating Industries Climate Response Project aimed at supporting Sri Lanka’s industrial sector to meet its climate change goals by improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, stated that it is the government’s objective to provide affordable, reliable and quality energy services to improve the quality of life of the people, and that Sri Lanka ranks 89th among the world’s carbon emitters, with per capita emissions of 0.88 tons of carbon dioxide. He further added that as the country’s economic activities grow, its carbon emissions may also increase. He emphasized that as one of the countries that signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the country is committed to reducing carbon emissions in the industrial sector and the energy sector by 13 percent and 25 percent, respectively.

He further mentioned that the AICRSL – Accelerating Industries Climate Response project is apparently playing a key role in achieving the above goals to be achieved commitment, and that he would like to express his heartfelt gratitude and respect to all relevant institutions and authorities.

He also stated that all citizens will be ensured access to reliable, convenient and affordable, reasonable, high quality energy services to improve their quality of life and participation in profitable economic activities in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr. Johann Hesse, Representative of the European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Dr. Pasini Cristiano, Representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Director of the Indian Sub-Regional Office of South Asia, Prof. Vijendra J. Bandara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, Mr. Harsha Wickramasinghe, Director General of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority and many other international energy specialists and field experts graced the event.
