Minister of Energy holds discussion with CEB Trade Unions
A discussion was held between Minister of Energy Eng. Kumara Jayakodi and the representatives of the trade unions at the Ministry of Energy today (13) evening with regard to the CEB restructuring programme.
Speaking at the meeting, the Minister stated that as a government that has well recognized the needs of the working people, employee rights and privileges has been ensured throughout this restructuring program. He emphasized that special consideration has been given to the discussions held from time to time with trade union representatives, and added that all possible efforts have been made to fulfill the demands of the trade unions.
He stated that, as Minister, his policy is to respond calmly, even to trade union actions, and that he would continue to prioritize the approach of addressing issues through negotiations.
During the discussion, the trade union representatives expressed their gratitude to the Minister of Energy and the government for taking action to fulfill most of their demands and for agreeing to consider implementing the remaining ones. They also stated that the trade unions currently involved in the trade union action will gather tomorrow to discuss about the ongoing trade union action as well as future actions as per the agreements reached and that they will share further details with the public in future.
A large number of trade union representatives from the electricity sector, as well as the directors of the four companies newly established for the electricity sector in accordance with the Sri Lanka Electricity Act, participated in the discussion.
