Draft National Electricity Policy Handed Over to the Minister of Energy
The draft of the National Electricity policy, formulated in accordance with the Sri Lanka Electricity act No. 14 of 2025, has been presented to the Minister of Energy, Eng. Kumara Jayakody, by the Committee appointed for that purpose.
In line with the NPP Government’s policy, a comprehensive National Energy Policy is being formulated to meet both the current as well as future requirements of the country’s energy sector, of which the National Electricity Policy plays a key part. The draft Policy, developed by the Cabinet-appointed Committee on formulating the National Electricity Policy, was presented to the Minister of Energy and the Composition of the Committee that contributed to this process is as follows;

- Eng. W.J.L.Shavindaranth Fernado
- President’s Counsel Milinda Gunathilaka
In the future, this draft Policy will be subjected to a Public Consultation process to solicit feedback, after which it is expected to be adopted as the National Electricity Policy.
