The Minsiter of Energy Commended the Restoration of the Rantambe- Mahiyangayana 132kV Transmission System Earlier than the Planned Date

The Minister of Energy, Eng. Kumara Jayakody, expressed his appreciation for the service rendered by electricity engineers and employees, who contributed to the restoration of the Rantambe-Mahiyanganaya 132kV transmission system, which was completed a few days ahead than the planned date, enabling the resumption of power supply to Mahiyanganaya area and the Batticaloa and Ampara districts of the Eastern Province.

The power supply to the aforementioned areas was disrupted due to damage occurred to one of the towers and cable system of the above transmission line, by the recent Cyclone “Ditwah”, resulting in the worst breakdown ever reported in the country’s grid. Although it was estimated that restoration would take until December 10, the power supply was restored by 5.30 pm today (06). Joining on the 4th of December, Minister of Energy inspected the construction and provided the necessary guidance and instructions as needed.
