We have completed the restructuring programme, marking the biggest transition in Sri Lankas’ power sector. Let’s join hands and turn the dream of “A Thriving Nation, A Beautiful Life” into reality, with your dedication and commitment in the newly established entities.”

Minster of Energy
Eng. Kumara Jayakody

The Minister of Energy shared the above views during a meeting held via zoom technology, with directors, senior officers and the new employees of the new entities established for the power sector following the completion of the restructuring programme.

Commenting further, he added that through the establishment of entities with hundred-percent government ownership, the government has ensured the state ownership of the country’s power sector, implementing necessary structural changes to address its current and future challenges, and reversing the previous government’s efforts to privatize the CEB by unbundling it into 12 entities.

As a people-centered government, we have paid special attention to a very important matter, and it is to ensure that the privileges and rights you enjoyed as CEB employees will never be reduced in any manner when you join the new companies. We have also addressed the grievances and various requests of CEB employees over the past period, making arrangements to fulfill those that remained unfulfilled. In fact, we were able to implement measures even before employees or trade unions requested them, as we believed, as a government of the working people, it is our responsibility.”

The Minister further mentioned that meetings with the trade unions representing the power sector were held from time to time, during which discussions took place and their voices were considered in the actions. At this juncture, as we take a giant step toward the development of our country’s power sector, I invite all of you to make the most of the opportunities available within these newly established entities and to contribute actively to this national programme. I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this restructuring programme a success.
