The U.S. and Sri Lanka Holds Discussion on Enhancing Energy-Related Cooperation
At the meeting held today (28) with the Minister of Energy, Eng. Kumara Jayakody, the Acting U.S. Ambassador, Mrs. Jayne Howell, stated that the U.S. has been paying attention to the positive changes currently taking place in Sri Lanka’s energy sector and expressed that they wish to further strengthen the energy related ties between the two countries through new investment opportunities.
During this meeting held at the Ministry of Energy, the Minister highlighted the various changes and improvements in the country’s energy and power sectors, providing detailed explanations of the different sectors as well as the emerging opportunities in which the U.S. investments and technical assistance are expected.
Discussions further focused on electricity sector restructuring process, ongoing reforms in the petroleum sector as well and matters concerning the energy security and sustainability both nationally and regionally.
Mr. Jacob Thomases, Economic Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy, and Mr. Janaka Rajakaruna, Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation were also preset on this occasion.
